Corcovado's Prime Birding Sectors


  • Access & Logistics: Located close to Drake Bay, access is exclusively by boat.
  • Ornithological Value: For experienced birdwatchers and ornithologists, San Pedrillo often surpasses other sectors. Its untouched primary rainforest features massive old-growth trees, providing an exceptional canopy and understory structure for observing

Sirena Station (High Biodiversity & Unique Trail Layout)


  • Access & Logistics: Reached via a wet boat landing on the beach.forest-dependent raptors, canopy frugivores, and rare interior species without crowds

  • Flower-Petal Trail System: Sirena’s trail network radiates from the main station like petals on a flower. Each loop brings you directly back to the central hub, allowing birders to head out for targeted morning or afternoon loops and return easily. This setup is ideal for easy walking, staying hydrated, and accommodating older travelers or families with children.
  • Facilities: Sirena is the only station offering lodging and full restaurant services. Drinking water is free for refills. Non-essential comforts like cold ice creams, natural juices, and snacks are available to recharge between loops

Los Patos Station

  • Ornithological Value: A key inland transition zone excellent for recording mid-elevation
    species, riverine specialists, and regional endemics.

Target Species & Endemism

The Osa Peninsula's isolation makes it a world-class hotspot for endemic avifauna. Target species on our expeditions include:

  • Streak-breasted Antpitta (Hylopezus perspicillatus)
  • Tawny-crowned Greenlet (Tunchiornis ochraceiceps)

  • Hook-billed Kite (Chondrohierax uncinatus) & specialized forest raptors
  • Family Pipridae (Manakins): Red-capped, Orange-collared, and Blue-crowned Manakins actively displaying at active leks
  • Family Trogonidae (Trogons): Multiple species residing in the understory and sub-canopy

Practical Planning & Booking

  1. Boat Departures: Boat transfers to San Pedrillo and Sirena depend on ocean tides. Early morning departures offer optimal sea conditions and peak avian activity.
  2. Optics: High-light transmission binoculars (8x42 or 10x42) are recommended for deep rainforest conditions.
  3. Daily Entry: Corcovado permits are strictly limited per day by SINAC
